How to Talk Minnesotan

We have our own
language up here.
Study up. If you'd like.

UFFDAH!: @($#&@#!&!!

It's the PG-rated version of what you'd really like to say but can't in front of the kids or whomever.

Example: You go out to you car and see a tire is flat and you exclaim, "Uffdah!"

THAT THERE and THIS HERE :

A pronoun with a specific direction or location to it.

Example: "You need to pick up that there log." Or "Take this here bag of groceries into the house."

SUMPTIN:

Something.

Example: "Smells like yer makin' sumptin good for supper."

OPE!:

It's a "surprise word", a variant of "oops", often said with a sudden start as if you've been taken aback.

For example, if you turn a corner and bump into someone when you didn't expect anyone to be there: "Ope! I'm sorry!"

OK THEN:

It's the final statement in a situation. It could represent Goodbye. Or if there's a discussion or argument along the lines of "That settles it."

Example: "I'm leaving for work now." ...."OK then."
"OK then. We all agree the potluck dinner is cancelled."

KA-PUT:

To come an end.

Example: "The machine suddenly exploded and it just went ka-put and won't run now."
